The Cape Cod Foundation Awards Nearly $400,000 in Scholarships

More than 250 people gathered under a tent at the Dennis Inn on Tuesday June 14th to congratulate The Cape Cod Foundation’s 2016 scholarship recipients. Many scholarship donors and review committee members were also in attendance. The event was sponsored by The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod.

This year, the Foundation awarded $382,933 in scholarships to more than 100 Cape Cod and Islands students. Their partner, the Cape Cod Association, a supporting organization of The Cape Cod Foundation, awarded more than $400,000 to nearly 300 Cape and Islands students. The total scholarships awarded between the two organizations was nearly $800,000.

“Our scholarship reception is a favorite event of the year. It’s very exciting to see all the young faces under the tent and think about the great things they’re off to do in the next phase of their lives,” said Kristin O’Malley, Executive Director of The Cape Cod Foundation.

Jamie Bohlin, Cape Cod native and owner of Cape Cod Celebrations, was this year’s scholarship reception keynote speaker. In her speech, she shared a top ten list of things to think about as many of the recipients move into their college years and, eventually, the world. “It was great to be a part of this event, and I wanted to share a few things I’ve learned over my years in business and would have liked someone to share with me when I was starting out in college,” said Ms. Bohlin.

Henry R. Holden, Chairman and President of The Cape Cod Foundation’s Board of Directors, congratulated each of this year’s award recipients. “This event is the capstone of many hours of staff, donor, and committee members’ work to recognize and award so many promising young people across our region. We are lucky to do the work we do,” said Mr. Holden.
