Celtics Lead Owner Pledges $20,000 to The Fund for Sandwich

Wyc Grousbeck, Governor, Managing Partner and CEO of the Boston Celtics, and his wife, Emilia Fazzalari, made a $20,000 pledge to support the charitable work of The Fund for Sandwich.  Grousbeck was the featured speaker at a recent fundraiser for the Town Fund, affiliated with The Cape Cod Foundation.

Over eighty sports fans, including student athletes from Sandwich High School, attended this unique fundraiser, which brought in an additional $4,000 in ticket sales to benefit the Sandwich community.  Randall Lane, Editor of Forbes Magazine and Chief Content Officer of Forbes Media, interviewed Grousbeck, who talked about the sports and business sides of the NBA and offered his take on building the next world championship team. Before the talk, fans posed with Grousbeck and the Celtics 2008 NBA Championship trophy he brought specifically for the occasion.

“Wyc’s generosity is astounding,” said Dr. Madeleine Wing Adler, member of the Fund’s Advisory Committee. “He not only brought this once-in-a-lifetime experience for Celtics fans to Sandwich, but also gave us an incredible gift to help the community thrive now and in the future.  We simply can’t thank him enough.”

The Fund for Sandwich was established with the Foundation in 2015 to support the town’s educational, cultural, conservation, and human needs. By encouraging community philanthropy and collaboration and actively fundraising, the Fund has been able to support several nonprofit organizations serving Sandwich residents over the past two years. This fall marks its third year of grantmaking.

“The Fund for Sandwich Team is building great momentum in the community and, with continued support from donors, is poised to accomplish great things for Sandwich residents every year,” said Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation.

O’Malley added that there are two other Cape towns with similar endowment funds with the Foundation: Chatham and Falmouth. “Each one started as a grassroots movement by residents who wanted to ensure that there would be financial resources to invest back into their communities every year,” she said.
