The Foundation accepts charitable gifts of almost any
size or kind, invests the capital, and distributes the income
in the form of grants to organizations and programs that match
the donor's interests. Donors entrust the Foundation
with their charitable dollars but also with their charitable interests,
relying on the Foundation to manage their assets wisely and carry
out their charitable goals. Many donors say they feel it's like
having their own private foundation-without the expense and the
administrative hassles.
Responsibility for policy and direction is invested in a volunteer
Board of Directors. New members are appointed by the Board and
by civic and public agencies on Cape Cod. The Foundation's
Investment Committee is responsible for setting investment policies
and monitoring performance.
Grant distributions are made according to the charitable interests
and specifications of donors and the emerging needs of the Cape
Cod community. Unrestricted donations are pooled in order to make
grants based on need in the arts, education, health and human
services, conservation, the environment, and community development.
A grant review committee reviews requests from the community and
recommends grantees to the Board of Directors.
A nonprofit agency, the Foundation is also an invaluable
resource for the community because it accepts and manages endowment
funds on behalf of nonprofit agencies, giving these organizations
professional money management services without the usual costs
and administrative red tape.
