In 2009, the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra and the Cape Cod Conservatory of Music & Arts began exploring the possibility of a merger between the two organizations. They concluded that there was a clear opportunity to combine and create a single entity that would enrich and further the cultural, educational and economic interests of our region through music and dance and art and to encourage lifelong involvement by offering superior education to all residents of and visitors to Cape Cod. But, to do it right, and to do it well, they needed to raise $300,000.
Seeing a prime opportunity to help maximize resources and to support increased efficiencies, the Cape Cod Foundation joined forces with the Bilezikian Family Foundation and the Edward Bangs Kelley and the Elza Kelley Foundation to launch the fundraising efforts through a combined $100,000 challenge grant for the merger that would be issued over three years. The Symphony and Conservatory met the challenge, raising more than the required $200,000. The merger was official September 1, 2010.
