In 2012, the East Falmouth Parent Teacher Organization embarked on an extensive fundraising campaign to raise money to construct a new playground at the East Falmouth Elementary School, as the old playground was in disrepair and unsafe to use. In their attempts to build broad community support, they submitted an application to The Falmouth Fund of the Cape Cod Foundation and were successful in receiving a grant for $3,500 to support the construction of the new playground. Fast forward to 2013 when the fundraising was nearly complete. An anonymous donor issued a $25,000 challenge grant to the East Falmouth PTO, which if successful, would help them complete the playground. To meet this challenge, the group once again applied for funding from The Falmouth Fund, this time being awarded a grant for $6,000 to be used towards the match. The group achieved their goal and the 2013 school-year started with a new sense of excitement, not only for the students at East Falmouth Elementary, but for the community as a whole, with the dedication of their new playground.
