The Chatham Fund of the Cape Cod Foundation made its inaugural grant, an award of $3,500, to Monomoy Community Services in 2013. For more than 40 years, Monomoy Community Services has been providing family support services to Chatham’s working families and individuals through clinical counseling referral, licensed childcare and youth enrichment programs, and special events and activities. The Chatham Fund grant was used specifically to restore an early childhood scholarship program, the Roger Pollack Scholarship, that lost its funding in 2012. The Roger Pollock Scholarship program was established 15 years ago and provides financial assistance to Chatham families to help cover the rising cost of childcare and nursery school. More than 180 families have benefited from the scholarship, most receiving modest awards of $1,500 to $2,000.
“Last year, we lost funding for the Roger Pollock Scholarship,” said MCS Executive Director, Theresa Malone, “and although we did have some benefactors come forward, it wasn’t enough to create an endowment. Now, along with private contributions, The Chatham Fund award serves to resurrect this much needed resource.”
