The friends and family of Jay Elliott have established a scholarship fund at The Cape Cod Foundation in his memory. The scholarship will support current or incoming students who are pursuing a degree or certificate in Visual Arts or Graphic Design at Cape Cod Community College, or who have earned their associates degree at Cape Cod Community College and are continuing on to a four-year college to earn a degree in Visual Arts or Graphic Design. Preference will be given to students who are interested in pursuing a career in photography.
“This memorial to Jay, funded almost exclusively from his savings, is particularly poignant to our family. We invite those who did not have an opportunity to honor him at his death to participate by contributing to this scholarship fund,” stated a spokesman from the Elliott family.
Widely known for his creative touch, Elliott was the official photographer of the Hyannis Chamber of Commerce, the Joe Cronin Memorial Jimmy Fund Fishing Tournament, and served many other Cape businesses and organizations. Throughout his career, he had the honor of photographing many prominent figures including: Norman Mailer, Senator Edward Kennedy, Sebastian Junger, Edward Gorey and others. Elliott attended Bard College in Annandale, NY and later graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in fine arts/photography.
Anyone interested in contributing to this fund in Jay’s memory may do so through The Cape Cod Foundation.
