While many local nonprofits host galas, golf tournaments, and other great events to build their resources, The Cape Cod Foundation’s Annual Non-Event takes an untraditional approach to fundraising.
“This fictious night out gives our donors the opportunity to support the Foundation without the obligation of attending an actual event,” said Kristin O’Malley, the Foundation’s President and CEO. “They simply buy tickets to our pretend party—and never show up!”
The Foundation’s 5th slightly irreverent Non-Event is a virtual 1980’s dance party in honor of its 30th Anniversary. In 1989, six local visionaries established the community foundation with a $10,000 scholarship. Since then, the Foundation has increased its assets to $65 million and distributed more than $70 million in grants and scholarships back into the community.
O’Malley said the cost-effective Non-Event supports the Foundation’s civic leadership initiatives which directly impact local nonprofit organizations. “Our mission is to bring resources and opportunities to the region that advance essential work in key areas: community and economic development; housing; health & human services; arts & culture; children, youth & families; and the environment,” she said.
She said the Foundation uses its discretionary funds to award grants to nonprofits, create nonprofit education and leadership development opportunities, power up partnerships with broad regional impact and bring vital, shared resources to Cape Cod’s nonprofit community.
