Youth Initiative Coordinator Position Description – Internship

Position:   Youth Initiative Coordinator
Status:       Summer Internship

OVERVIEW
The Cape Cod Foundation is one of more than 750 community foundations around the country whose overarching mission is to match community resources with community needs.  The Foundation serves all of Cape Cod through grantmaking, scholarships, civic leadership, and donor services, and currently employs 3 full-time and 3 part-time staff members.  The Cape Cod Foundation has distributed more than $52 million in grants and scholarships since its founding in 1989.

For the past 4 years, the Foundation has been facilitating a community process to create and implement the Cape-wide Youth Action Plan.  The plan is a road-map to support the vision of a healthy Cape Cod for ALL young people, and to measure progress toward that vision. The plan works through community partnerships and innovative programs, and promotes regional, system-wide change.  The next initiative for the Cape-wide Youth Action Plan is the implementation of The Community Platform, an online tool to help communities and nonprofit organizations work together more effectively.

POSITION
The Cape Cod Foundation is looking for a highly motivated summer intern to assist in the management of The Community Platform.  This position is multi-faceted and would provide a unique opportunity to work with many Cape Cod organizations to build a better community.

The Youth Initiative Coordinator will ideally possess an interest in philanthropy, community collaboration, youth development, and/or communications.  The position is varied based on the interests of the individual and could be focused on outreach to nonprofits and the public, or research and data-driven work.

The Youth Initiative Coordinator plans and manages youth initiatives for the Foundation and works closely with staff and committees to support implementation activities within the Foundation. The position is highly visible and has a strong effect on the public perception of the Foundation.  This would be a perfect position for someone looking for an introduction into the nonprofit sector and to network with many different organizations on Cape Cod.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
This individual must be a team player, possess a strong work ethic, be an independent thinker and have excellent oral and written communications skills. Other requirements include: mature judgment; excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; commitment to collaboration and team work; proven ability to motivate and inspire people; high integrity; approachable; creative problem solver; critical thinker; broad community and nonprofit knowledge; well-organized self-starter; resourceful; motivated; ability to multi-task; and strong computer and internet research skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Youth Initiative Coordinator supports the overall civic leadership priorities of The Cape Cod Foundation by facilitating and supporting youth initiatives.  In addition, the Coordinator works closely with the Program Officer and Steering Committee to ensure the overall success of these initiatives.  This includes the following tasks:

  • Outline and communicate clear objectives and outcomes for youth initiatives to committees, community partners and funders
  • Support outreach and communications from the Foundation to the community; including attending community meetings, sharing resources with nonprofits and fielding incoming questions
  • Assist with data collection and synthesis and share outcomes
