Our Impact: Special Grants
AUGUST 2019: $90,000 in Capital Grants to Support Local Nonprofits Addressing Hunger and Homelessness
Because grants for capital purchases are rare, the Foundation seized an opportunity from a private charitable foundation that supports nonprofit organizations in Massachusetts. Upon acceptance of its application, The Foundation received $90,000 to distribute to 11 nonprofits addressing hunger and homelessness with immediate, unmet needs. Several nonprofits with centralized and mobile food pantries purchased commercial-grade refrigerators or freezers to increase fresh food distribution to clients. One local shelter repaired its HVAC system; others purchased new windows, doors, and other security improvements. Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod equipped two affordable homes with solar panels.
The grant recipients were:
Cape Cod Council of Churches; Cape Cod Military Support Foundation; Catholic Social Services’ St. Joseph’s Shelter; Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod; CHAMP Homes; The Family Pantry of Cape Cod; Homeless Prevention Council; Housing Assistance Corporation; Independence House; Lower Cape Outreach Council; The Salvation Army in Hyannis. FEBRUARY 2019: $35,000 to Local Nonprofits in Response to Government Shut-Down
When the government shut-down hit close to home, the Foundation awarded a special $10,000 Community Impact Grant to the Family Pantry of Harwich to increase resources to households across the Cape. The Family Pantry serves over 9,000 clients and distributes over 72,000 bags of groceries, so we knew, with added resources, they could meet an increased demand quickly and efficiently. The TGC Fund awarded $15,000 to the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation, and The Falmouth Fund gave an unprecedented, one-time grant for $10,000 to the Falmouth Service Center. Both are funds of The Cape Cod Foundation. PRESS RELEASE
