Our Impact: Special Initiatives
CAPE YOUTH FORCE
This isn’t your typical program. It’s the only one of its kind on Cape Cod. And, these aren’t your typical teenagers. They’re real-life grantmakers. Their mission: work together for the common good.
Every year, a new group of high school students becomes part of the Cape Youth Force. They get together to discuss issues, set priorities, review proposals, and distribute grants to schools, after-school programs, and organizations that work with children, youth, and families on Cape Cod.
More than 200 students from schools across Cape Cod have participated in the program since it was established by The Cape Cod Foundation and Barnstable County UMass Extension/4H in 2003. To date, the young philanthropists have awarded more than $35,000 in grants to over 50 organizations and supported everything from wildlife protection to drug awareness to substance abuse prevention.
This program gives teens the opportunity to talk about community issues, learn about the nonprofit organizations serving our community, and support something that really matters to them.
Cape Youth Force was originally established with funding from Massachusetts Environmental Trust. Today, it is funded by individual donations and two funds of The Cape Cod Foundation: the Community Fund for Young People and the Fund for Youth Activities.
DONATE: If you would like to increase the students’ impact in the community, please donate.
Together, we have invested more than $80 million in grants and scholarships in the Cape Cod Community. For good.
