Dorothy W. and Charles M. Campbell Fund-Leaving a Legacy
A native of Cape Cod, Charles graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy before serving in the Navy as an engineer. The Campbells married in 1957 and landed in East Orleans, where they owned and operated East Orleans Boat Yard for many years. They were both very active in the community. Upon their passing, they bequeathed a portion of their estate to establish a scholarship fund in their memory that honors their connection to Cape Cod, marine engineering, and to Massachusetts Maritime Academy. The scholarship provides multi-year funding to graduating high school seniors or current college students who are residents of Orleans, Brewster, or Eastham, with a preference for students who have graduated from Nauset Regional High School or Cape Cod Technical High School, and who are/will be studying marine engineering at an institute of higher learning. The scholarship is also open to graduating seniors and current college students from Cape Cod or the Islands who are attending Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Since the fund was established in 2007, nearly $70,000 in scholarships has been distributed in the Campbell’s name.
