Chatham Fund Awards $30,000 in Grants to Two Nonprofits

SOUTH YARMOUTH – The Chatham Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation recently awarded $30,000 in grants to two nonprofit organizations serving the town’s residents. Monomoy Community Services and Lower Cape Outreach Council each received $15,000 to support their ongoing programs and services and to continue their case work for the Chatham Coronavirus Impact Fund.

“We took a proactive approach to our grantmaking this year,” said Henry R. Holden, Chair of The Chatham Fund. “Rather than soliciting proposals from nonprofit organizations, we looked closely at agencies responding to the most critical needs of residents to maximize the Fund’s impact in our community.”

At the onset of the pandemic in 2020, the Advisory Council distributed $25,000 to Monomoy Com-munity Services to provide immediate need to Chatham residents and an unprecedented $100,000 to the Chatham Coronavirus Impact Fund which worked through Monomoy Community Services, Lower Cape Outreach Council, and other agencies to identify and help individuals and families in need.

Holden was among a group of residents who established The Chatham Fund with the Foundation in 2013 to build a permanent endowment for the town through private donations and to provide grants to nonprofit organizations that enhance the quality of life in the community.

“The Town Fund model is a powerful one,” said Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation. “By working together, The Chatham Fund—and our other Town Funds—have been able to build resources for annual grantmaking, provide additional funds for emergency relief, and create endowments to provide for the future needs of their communities.”

Three other Cape towns have established similar funds with the Foundation: Falmouth, Sandwich,¬ and Harwich.
