THE FALMOUTH FUND WILL GRANT UP TO $100,000 TO NONPROFITS SERVING THE TOWN

The Falmouth Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation has reached a milestone. Since 2009, it has granted almost $500,000 to more than 70 local nonprofit organizations serving the Falmouth community. As it enters its 10th year of grantmaking, it will award up to $100,000 to nonprofits for projects and programs across a range of focus areas: education; health and human services, arts and culture; and the environment.

“Our goal is to make a difference in many people’s lives by supporting the important work the nonprofits in our community are doing,” says Chair Sharon Nunes. “Over the years, The Falmouth Fund has helped support food pantries, shelters, health centers, and mentoring programs. We have helped preserve historical buildings and precious open spaces.  We have supported talks, concerts, film festivals, and new theatrical works.”

There are two funding categories for nonprofit organizations submitting applications this year: General Grants and Strategic Focus Grants. General Grants address emerging opportunities, launch creative initiatives, or cover costs of small, one-time projects for the organization. The application deadline is December 15.  Strategic Focus Grants address strategic initiatives and long-range organizational capacity-building. The first step in the Strategic Focus Grant process is to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) to The Cape Cod Foundation by October 15. The Advisory Committee will notify applicants who have been selected for further consideration by November 15. A full proposal must be submitted by the applicant by December 15. “Town Funds are a unique way for residents to power up the nonprofits serving their communities,” said Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation.  “By pooling and investing donations into a Town Fund, you not only generate a large amount of revenue for grantmaking every year, you also help create a permanent, growing endowment to support the community for the long-term.”

Two other Cape towns have Town Funds with The Cape Cod Foundation.  The Chatham Fund is in its sixth year of grantmaking.  The Fund for Sandwich will award its second round of grants in November.  All three Cape funds started as grass roots efforts by individuals in their communities.
