The Cape Cod Foundation Awards $80,000 Grant to Support Students at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School

SOUTH YARMOUTH – The Cape Cod Foundation recently awarded the Cape Cod Tech Foundation (CCTF) an $80,000 grant to support capacity building initiatives, educational and mentoring programs, scholarships, and other needs for currently enrolled students of Cape Cod Regional Technical High School (CCRTHS).

Two local funders who have donor-advised funds with The Cape Cod Foundation also made additional contributions to these efforts: The Lawrence-Lynch Corp. Foundation for Charitable Giving and The Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Foundation.

“This partnership with the Cape Cod Tech Foundation aligns very closely with our strategy,” said Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation. “It advances our ongoing work in youth development, education, and workforce development. It focuses on fulfilling unmet needs by providing flexible resources for necessities beyond what is covered by the school’s operating budget. It also helps create, expand, and increase access to programs while strengthening the school through ongoing capacity building initiatives.”

Cape Cod Regional Technical High School currently serves 653 students from the Mid- to Lower-Cape, Mashpee to Provincetown. It combines traditional academic offerings with the following technical programs: Carpentry, Electrical, Horticulture, HVAC, Plumbing & Heating, Culinary Arts, Cosmetology, Health Technology, Dental Assisting, Design & Visual Communication, Information Technologies, Engineering, Auto Collision Technology, Automotive Technology, and Marine Services.

“This grant will support Alumni Mentoring Programs, scholarships for continuing education, mini teacher grants, and an Angel Fund to address the emergency needs of students,” O’Malley said. “It will also support many of the hidden expenses that create barriers for students by funding drivers’ education, licensing fees, and “toolships,” actual tools of the trade or other essential items, like work boots.”

Upon graduation, about 60% of CCRTHS alumni will enter the Cape workforce. Some will continue their education at two- or four-year colleges; others will enlist in the military.

The Cape Cod Regional Technical High School District budget allows us to provide tremendous technical and academic programming for our students, while the Cape Cod Tech Foundation addresses the myriad of critical needs that a district budget cannot address.”

Bob Eckel, Executive Director of the CCTF, added, “This grant comes at a significant time in the development of our Cape Cod Tech Foundation which was formed in 2019. The Cape Cod Foundation’s investment in our mission will bolster our efforts for students and teachers greatly.”
