The Cape Cod Foundation Awards Nearly $900,000 In Scholarships

SOUTH YARMOUTH–The Cape Cod Foundation recently awarded scholarships totaling nearly $900,000 to support 150 local students who are beginning or continuing their higher education or pursuing certificate programs. Its partner, the Cape Cod Association, awarded $503,500 to 337 students. Together, the organizations exceeded $1.4 million in scholarship support for the second consecutive year.

The Cape Cod Foundation currently administers over 90 active funds that award scholarships annually to students throughout the region. More than 500 individuals applied for scholarships this year. Approximately 20% of the recipients are first-generation college students.

A team of 254 volunteers donated 1,300 hours to the competitive scholarship selection process.

Some of this year’s students will pursue degrees nearby at Cape Cod Community College and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Others will venture farther from home to study at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Harvard, Dartmouth College, Arizona State University, and University of California Berkley.

They are preparing for careers in business administration, hospitality, law, engineering, medicine, politics, social work, environmental sciences, education, technology, and the arts.

“The Foundation was established in 1989 with a single $10,000 scholarship. Since then, our Scholarship Program has experienced incredible growth and impacted many people’s lives,” said Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation. “We have done this by building a community of support. With continued support from donors, we will be able to increase scholarship opportunities for all educational paths in the coming years.”
