The Cape Cod Foundation Deploys Third Round of Grants from Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund to Local Nonprofits

SOUTH YARMOUTH –The Cape Cod Foundation has deployed an additional $130,000 in grants with funds received from the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund. The grants are being made to ten nonprofit organizations, selected by The Cape Cod Foundation, that provide critical services to Cape Cod residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

To date, the Foundation has received $350,000 from the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund to strategically deploy on Cape Cod. The Relief Fund supports those across the state most impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis, focusing on essential frontline workers and vulnerable populations including the homeless, immigrant populations, people with disabilities and those facing food insecurity. The Fund works in concert with regional community foundations and nonprofit leaders who partner with local leaders to understand the response and relief landscape, strategically filling in where gaps are pronounced. “Food insecurity continues to be an ongoing challenge greatly exacerbated by the pandemic,” said Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation. “This round of grants will continue to help stock local nonprofit food pantries and keep meal delivery programs operational.”

O’Malley said nonprofits providing services to specific vulnerable populations across Cape Cod, including immigrants and individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, also received funding.

“Since students are another group severely impacted by COVID-19, we directed funds to The Cape Cod Community College Education Foundation for its Student Emergency Fund,” O’Malley added.

The ten organizations that received grants to support Cape Cod residents this round are:

Cape Cod Children’s Place
Cape Cod Community College Educational Foundation
Catholic Social Services of Fall River
Friends of the Bourne Council on Aging, Inc./Bourne Friends Food Pantry
Harwich Ecumenical Council for the Homeless
Homeless Prevention Council
Salvation Army Hyannis
Sandwich Food Pantry
Soup Kitchen in Provincetown
Yarmouth Food Pantry

To date, The Cape Cod Foundation has raised just under $1 million for its newly-created Strategic Emergency Response Fund from discretionary resources, individual donors, corporate partners, and foundations. It has now distributed a total of $580,000 in grants to 29 nonprofit organizations serving the Cape Cod region.

Fifty-eight percent of the grants have supported food and basic needs; 20% have supported programs and services for adults with disabilities; 12% have helped provide childcare for essential workers; and 10% have supported healthcare services.

More grants to address the immediate and long-term needs of the community due to the pandemic are planned.
