The Cape Cod Foundation Partners with Cape Women’s Coalition

The Cape Cod Foundation and Cape Women’s Coalition (CWC), recently announced a partnership whereby the Foundation will serve as fiscal sponsor for CWC, a local, non-partisan group that helps women become agents of change through civic engagement.

“The coalition was established by a small group of women who came together following the 2012 election,” said Sue Rohrbach, CWC Chair.  “Our goal is to help women achieve leadership positions in local, regional and statewide public office for a better balance in decision-making and leadership at all levels.

”More than 200 Cape women leaders and local and state elected officials attend the CWC’s Annual Breakfast each year in March in celebration of International Women’s Day to discuss key civic and community issues.  In 2020, CWC will also continue its monthly roundtable discussions focused on wastewater, early childhood education, the purpose of town meeting, the impact of plastics/Styrofoam, and other topics relevant to the Cape Cod community.

As fiscal sponsor, the Foundation will handle the back-office administration of CWC, allowing the members of the organization to focus more on fundraising and programming than administration. As a fund of the Foundation under its 501(c)(3) charitable status, CWC can apply for grants and receive tax deductible donations to advance its mission without seeking its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.

In addition to the administrative advantages, the partnership highlights the shared missions of the two organizations. “We chose the Foundation because it has a strong focus on community betterment and civic leadership,” Rohrbach said.

“The work of CWC is collaborative, inclusive, and of vital importance to the community,” said Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation. “Civic engagement is at the core of the Foundation’s work, so we are honored to partner with CWC in their efforts to serve the community in this way.

”O’Malley said the Foundation offers this fiscal sponsorship service for a limited number of organizations and currently serves in this capacity for eleven other organizations on Cape Cod.
