The Cape Cod Foundation Receives $100,000 Grant From Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund

SOUTH YARMOUTH –The Cape Cod Foundation received a $100,000 grant from the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund to deploy on Cape Cod. In turn, The Foundation distributed funds to the following eight nonprofit organizations to provide basic human needs to residents throughout the Cape Cod region: Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Council, Cape Cod Council of Churches, Cape Cod Military Support Foundation, Cape Kid Meals; CHAMP Homes, Duffy Health Center, Housing Assistance Corporation, and Lower Cape Outreach Council.

The Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund supports those across the state most impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis, focusing on essential frontline workers and vulnerable populations including the homeless, immigrant populations, people with disabilities and those facing food insecurity. The Fund works in concert with regional community foundations and nonprofit leaders who partner with local leaders to understand the response and relief landscape, strategically filling in where gaps are pronounced. “When we learned about The Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund, we were excited for an opportunity to bring additional resources to the Cape’s communities,” said Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation. “Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been in constant contact with leaders across the nonprofit sector to determine where the needs and challenges are the greatest. This grant will help bring relief to the most vulnerable people in our community.”

O’Malley said the organizations selected need additional, ongoing support to meet very basic needs and the increased demand for food through pantries and delivery programs. They serve a large cross-section of individuals and families, including veterans and active military personnel, homeless individuals, people with disabilities and those living in shelters.

“We are so grateful to receive this grant,” O’Malley said. “It will certainly advance our work in the community.”

To date, The Cape Cod Foundation has raised more than $700,000 through its newly-created Strategic Emergency Response Fund and continues to fundraise to support the immediate and ongoing needs of the region caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
