The Cape Cod Foundation Surpasses $1 Million in Grants to Support COVID-19 Relief

SOUTH YARMOUTH –The Cape Cod Foundation continues to focus on helping vulnerable populations across the Cape by deploying an additional $115,000 to three nonprofits focused on providing food, housing, and emergency assistance to residents impacted by the pandemic.

This brings the Foundation’s total giving from its Strategic Emergency Response Fund to support COVID relief to $1.04 million. The grants, which have been made over the last 12 weeks, have supported 41 local nonprofit organizations.

The nonprofits the Foundation selected to receive the latest round of funding, made possible by the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund, are: Catholic Social Services of Fall River, Inc., Housing Assistance Corporation, and the Lower Cape Outreach Council.

“Food insecurity is still high in many areas. It’s also critical to ensure those who have housing don’t lose it and those who are currently homeless find a safe place to live,” said Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation. “These nonprofit organizations are providing direct financial assistance for rent, utilities, and medical needs for immigrants on Cape Cod, along with many other individuals and families in need.”

To date, The Cape Cod Foundation has raised $1.39 million for its Strategic Emergency Response Fund from discretionary resources, individual donors, corporate partners, and foundations. More grants to address the immediate and long-term needs of the community due to the pandemic are planned.

The Foundation has received $750,000 from the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund to strategically deploy on Cape Cod. The Relief Fund supports those across the state most impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis, focusing on essential frontline workers and vulnerable populations including the homeless, immigrant populations, people with disabilities and those facing food insecurity. The Fund works in concert with regional community foundations and nonprofit leaders who partner with local leaders to understand the response and relief landscape, strategically filling in where gaps are pronounced.
