The Cape Cod Foundation to Present a Virtual Community Forum on Food Security and Access Across Cape Cod

SOUTH YARMOUTH – The Cape Cod Foundation will present a virtual community forum, “Food Security & Access Across Cape Cod” on Thursday, February 25, from 9:30 am-10:15 am. It is the first in a series of forums planned for 2021 to share information about the region’s current needs, re-sources, and opportunities for community engagement with a larger audience.

Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation, said they are leading with food security and access because the pandemic has exacerbated ongoing challenges across Cape Cod.

“Over the past year, our local food pantries and food programs have reported 100%-300% increases in demand for services,” O’Malley added. “Nonprofit organizations have also had to implement different distributions models to serve those who can’t get to pantries or access other programs at this time.”

The presenters who will join O’Malley for the first forum are: Christine Menard, Executive Director of Family Pantry of Cape Cod; Tammy Leone, Executive Director of Cape Kid Meals; and Maryanne Ryan, Director of Community Services of Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands.

“While we can’t solve the region’s problems in a 45-minute forum, we can share up-to-date information and opportunities for people to help.”

The forum is free and open to all. It will also be recorded to share after the event. Register at
capecodfoundation.org to attend or to receive a link to the recording after the event.

Upcoming forums will address housing and homelessness; mental & behavioral health; education; and other key issues.
