The Falmouth Fund: Alan Goldstein

Alan Goldstein

ALAN GOLDSTEIN grew up in Swampscott, in Boston’s North Shore, and graduated from Northeastern University. He met his wife, Carmen, while managing an IT company branch office in Los Angeles. They relocated to Boston, where he started a 30-year career at Meditech (health IT systems). Alan and Carmen moved to East Falmouth in 2011, and, a year later, he retired from his position as Director of Marketing. They have two married daughters and three grandchildren. He plays golf and tennis and is a woodworker. Alan is a past board member of the Great Harbors neighborhood association and a past member of the Woods Hole Golf Club Board of Governors. Alan and Carmen spend their winters enjoying Palm Springs.

“Like many others, I have historically donated to a variety of charitable causes. I typically picked those that arose during the year: the Service Center, cancer research, and other organizations whose mission touched me or my family. Unfortunately, only a few organizations truly impacted my local Falmouth community, where I really wanted to make a difference. I didn’t spend a lot of time researching each organization and what they were doing, and it was hard to discern which I should support with my limited dollars. I discovered The Falmouth Fund, and, to me, it felt like a charitable-equivalent of investing through a mutual fund rather than picking individual stocks. My limited funds are combined with those of other like-minded residents to have bigger impact. The Fund’s volunteer staff does the hard work: researching and allocating funds where they will do the most good, based on the current needs. The Falmouth Fund supports my desire to impact many of the most needy organizations across my own community.”    —Alan Goldstein
