The Fund for Sandwich Awards $5,800 in Grants

SOUTH YARMOUTH—The Fund for Sandwich of The Cape Cod Foundation recently awarded $5,800 in grants to two organizations serving the community.

The Sandwich Council on Aging (COA) received a $5,000 unrestricted grant to help seniors facing crises related to food security, health care, housing, transportation, and a range of domestic challenges.

“The Council is on the front line, providing critical support to some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” said Dr. Madeleine Wing Adler, Chair of The Sandwich Fund. “Because the pandemic has increased the demand for its services, we wanted to give them additional resources to use at their discretion.”

Adler said The Sandwich Fund also awarded the Sandwich COA a $3,000 grant for relief efforts at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 and a second grant of $1,000 last November to support its Transition Assistance Fund.

The Sandwich Arts Alliance received the second grant, an $800 award to support Party Pack Art Kits for families with children.

“Many children are missing out on birthday parties and other social activities they love and need,” said Paul Houlihan, a member of the Fund’s Advisory Committee. “This funding will provide art kits for 15 socially-distanced or virtual parties for up to eight children and help alleviate financial stress on families at the same time.”

The Fund’s Advisory Committee will continue to seek private donations to support proactive grants to nonprofits that are meeting immediate community needs and will conduct its fifth annual grantmaking process later in 2021 to support additional organizations.
