The Thomas C. McGowan Fund for Animals Announces Grant Opportunities
The Thomas C. McGowan Fund for Animals of The Cape Cod Foundation is now accepting proposals from nonprofit organizations for projects and programs benefiting domesticated animals and wildlife on Cape Cod and the Islands. The application deadline is Sunday, December 1. The application process is entirely online at capecodfoundation.org.
Last year the fund distributed $45,000 to nonprofit organizations; it has awarded more than $300,000 in grants since inception.
The fund was established at the Foundation in 2009 through a gift from the late Thomas C. McGowan, who was passionate about animals and wanted to ensure that there would be funds to support their protection and welfare long after his death. In establishing the fund, McGowan indicated a preference for initiatives that supported medical treatment; “no-kill” shelters; spaying/neutering domestic animals; the prevention of cruelty to animals; and education and public awareness-building on related issues.
Since then, a significant percentage of the fund’s grants have supported spaying/neutering projects. To broaden the scope of programs it supports, the fund’s 2019/2020 initiative encourages organizations to seek funding for new and existing programs in the other preferred areas listed above. It also encourages organizations with spaying/neutering programs to collaborate and/or discuss ways to collectively, effectively, and efficiently use the funds.
