Volunteer Marta Cahill

Caroline

Scholarship Committee Volunteer
Two of Marta’s four children received very generous scholarships from the Arlington Community Foundation (ACF) in Virginia. That experience motivated her to get involved with their scholarship program in 2008. Then, after moving to Cape Cod, she “traded” scholarship teams and  volunteered with our Scholarship Committee.

Every volunteer brings invaluable and diverse work and life experience to the scholarship selection process. Marta spent the first 10 years of her professional life in politics and government. When her children were young, she transitioned to freelance writing and editing. Then, after a part-time role as executive director for Arlington VA travel soccer, and a couple years with an association, she served as a sports programmer for Arlington County, VA, running youth and adult soccer programs, youth basketball, and ultimate games.

“I loved that job and was a bit reluctant to retire,” she said. Although, she does admit, retiring in April 2020 was pretty good timing.

“The major takeaway from both the Arlington and Cape Cod scholarship reviews is immense hope for the future of our country, seeing the intelligence, drive, passion, and commitment of these high school students. It is very rewarding to read about these students and to be able to help, at least a bit, with their college finances. I always wish that I had a spare million dollars to give to many more incredibly deserving students.”
