Free Coffee Event to Benefit Logan Dunne Memorial Scholarship Fund

The friends and family of Logan Dunne have established a scholarship fund at The Cape Cod Foundation in his memory. The scholarship will support graduates of Nauset Regional High School with a preference for those who have overcome a serious challenge, demonstrated compassion and community service and/or are interested in pursuing college degrees in math, science, psychology or engineering.

A graduate of Nauset Regional High School, Logan was a beloved member of the community.  Known for both his athletic prowess and his positivity in the face of adversity, Logan made a lasting impression on those who knew him.  Diagnosed at age 15 in 2007 with neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that arises in immature nerve cells affecting mainly infants and children, he spent a considerable amount of time sidelined with treatment and recovery.  He later returned to Nauset and served both as a class and National Honor Society officer for both his junior and senior years and was elected senior prom king before his graduation in 2012.  Tragically, Logan succumbed to the disease in 2013 at the age of 20.

“Logan took great joy in living every day to the fullest. From a tender age, and even when he was mischievous, he was one of those people who quietly looked out for those who needed some encouragement, or tenderness. He made an art out of putting people at ease, whether in the classroom, on an athletic field, and later, within a hospital setting. To honor his memory we support like-minded problem-solving students seeking higher education to live with empathy and kindness, as Logan did,” said Kim Kettler, Logan’s mother.

The fund was originally established in 2013 with extensive fundraising efforts led by the Kettler-Dunne family and Beanstock Coffee co-founder and close family friend, John Simonian.  John’s daughter, Molly, and Logan met in preschool and remained close friends for the duration of his life.  Both Beanstalk Coffee and Cape Air were early supporters of the scholarship, offering matching funds to money raised.  The original intent of the scholarship fund will remain the same, with administration now managed by The Cape Cod Foundation.

Beanstock Coffee will be hosting the third ”Launch for Logan” free coffee event this coming Saturday, January 2nd, from 9AM-3PM to raise donations benefiting the scholarship fund.  The event will take place at Beanstock Coffee’s roasting facility at 165 Holmes Road in Eastham.  Free food will be provided by the Corner Store in Chatham, Cottage Street Bakery and others.  There will also be a raffle featuring donated items and gift certificates from a number of local businesses.
