Strategic Emergency Response Fund

We established The Cape Cod Foundation Strategic Emergency Response Fund at the onset of the pandemic in 2020 to support immediate community needs and long-term recovery, with an eye on creating a viable vehicle for future emergencies. During the Blizzard of 2026, the resources from this fund, and other discretionary funds, helped nonprofit organizations continue critical services and recover from the storm’s impact.  To help ensure there are resources for the future, please consider donating to this fund.

The Pandemic: 2020-2023

The Cape Cod Foundation allocated $100,000 in discretionary money to establish the fund.  Through the generosity of private foundations, corporate partners, and individual donors, we raised $5,660,000 to support local nonprofit organizations providing critical programs and services to residents in need and to fund nonprofit capacity-building initiatives that help them reach the next level of operational, programmatic, financial, or organizational maturity for long-term stability and lasting change.  All funds raised were for current use (not endowment) and supported nonprofit organizations serving Cape Cod residents.

The Blizzard of 2026

While everyone expected the February blizzard would have a dynamic, multi-day impact on Cape Cod, no one could predict its true impact.  We quickly deployed $220,000 in funding to 40 organizations through our first-ever Blizzard Grants. Funding supported food pantries and meal delivery services; increased staff costs; generator fuel, maintenance, and repair; tree removal, and lost revenue, among other storm-related needs.  In addition, since many lost work during the blizzard, some residents needed emergency assistance to pay their rent, utilities, or grocery bills.
