Strategic Emergency Response Fund
THE STRATEGIC EMERGENCY RESPONSE FUND MISSION
At the onset of the pandemic in March 2020, The Cape Cod Foundation allocated $100,000 in discretionary money to seed The Cape Cod Foundation Strategic Emergency Response Fund. To date, through the generosity of private foundations, corporate partners and individual donors, we have raised $2.66 million and distributed $1.41 million to local nonprofit organizations providing critical services to residents in need. Fundraising continues. More grants are planned. We will continue to respond to immediate needs and fuel initiatives that will help us rebuild.
THE “RESPOND, REBUILD & REIMAGINE” COMMUNITY CHALLENGE
DECEMBER 1, 2020-MAY 31, 2021
$418,056 NEEDED TO MEET OUR $1.5 MILLION GOAL
The challenge is on! Through the generosity of The Gitlin Family, and with support from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, we have raised an additional $750,000 for The Strategic Emergency Response Fund. We are using this funding as a matching challenge to the community to raise an additional $750,000 by May 31, 2021. If successful, the challenge will generate an additional $1.5 million for immediate and ongoing pandemic relief throughout the region! Learn more about the goals of this initiative to increase support to Cape Cod residents and to strengthen key nonprofit organizations for long-term stability and lasting change below.
All funds raised are for current use (not endowment).
All funds raised will support nonprofit organizations serving Cape Cod residents.
“Cape Cod has been a special place for our family for over 20 years. We believe that part-time residents
who enjoy everything the Cape has to offer during the summer months can and should support their neighbors
365 days per year. We are proud to support The Cape Cod Foundation and all residents who are in need.”
–The Gitlin Family
THE GOALS OF THE CHALLENGE
To increase immediate financial support to Cape Cod residents impacted by the pandemic and to strengthen key nonprofit organizations for long-term sustainability and lasting change.
RESPOND: MEET IMMEDIATE COMMUNITY NEEDS
Basic Human Needs; Vulnerable Populations
In the months ahead, we will continue to prioritize basic human needs and support nonprofit organizations that are assisting residents with food, rental & mortgage payments, utility, transportation costs, medicine, childcare, and other critical needs. We will also support organizations helping our most vulnerable populations: the elderly, people with disabilities or mental/behavioral health issues, victims of domestic violence, immigrants, and those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. While needs will change, we will continue to strategically fill in where gaps are pronounced.
REBUILD & REIMAGINE: STRENTHEN OUR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
Support for Capacity-Building Initiatives
In order to rebuild our communities, we need to reimagine them. We will continue to partner closely with key nonprofit organizations and support capacity-building initiatives that help them reach the next level of operational, programmatic, financial, or organizational maturity. Our support includes grants, access to technical assistance and other resources, and opportunities to network and collaborate with other organizations. We will help these organizations achieve their core missions by:
Investing in essential programs, technology, and operational improvements
Providing assessment tools to help them understand and prioritize their needs in key areas like strategy, leadership,
finances, and systems
Creating nonprofit leadership and organizational development opportunities, including one-on-one coaching/mentoring
sessions, local and regional peer learning cohorts, and educational sessions
Advancing nonprofit partnerships and collaboratives that seek to share resources and eliminate duplicate services
