The Cape Cod Foundation Awards Additional $411,500 From Strategic Emergency Response Fund to Support 22 Nonprofits

The Cape Cod Foundation recently awarded an additional $411,500 from its Strategic Emergency Response Fund to support 22 nonprofit organizations providing critical programs and services to residents across Cape Cod.

The following organizations received a total of $221,500 to support food security, food access, and other critical needs, vaccine education outreach, and mental and behavioral health programs and services across the region: Alzheimer’s Family Support Center; Barnstable Public Schools; Calmer Choice; Cape Cod Children’s Place; Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance; Cape Cod Seventh Day Adventist Church; Child and Family Services; Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center; Gosnold on Cape Cod; Health Ministry; National Alliance on Mental Illness of Cape Cod and the Islands; Outer Cape Health Services; and Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands.

“While many of these grants help nonprofits respond to immediate community needs, others support capacity building projects that will strengthen their infrastructures,” said Kristin O’Malley, CEO and President of The Cape Cod Foundation. “This way, they can continue to meet the demand for program and services now and in the months and years ahead.”

The Foundation also awarded an additional round of Community Foundation Grants from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.

The following nonprofit organizations received a total of $190,000: Cape Cod Children’s Place; Cape Cod Times Needy Fund: Catholic Social Services of Fall River; Fishing Partnership Support Services; Harwich Ecumenical Council for Housing; Health Imperatives; Kennedy Donovan Center; Lower Cape Outreach Council; and Monomoy Community Services.

“These funds from the State have been earmarked for low-income Cape Cod households who are experiencing severe economic hardship due to the pandemic. The direct financial assistance supports food, childcare, healthcare, housing/shelter, utilities, transportation, technology for remote work/school, and other basic human needs,” O’Malley said.

Those in need should contact these organizations directly to see if they are eligible to receive financial assistance and access to other resources, O’Malley added.

Since March 2020, the Foundation has raised $3,082,177 and distributed $2,265,644 to local nonprofit organizations through its Strategic Emergency Response Fund. The total raised includes $753,000 from the Foundation’s recent “Respond, Rebuild & Reimagine” community challenge.

O’Malley said more grants that provide direct financial support to residents in need, along with grants to nonprofits for operational and capacity-building support, are planned.
