Cape Cod Foundation Awards Over $1 Million in Scholarships to Local Students
SOUTH YARMOUTH–The Cape Cod Foundation recently awarded over $1 million in scholarships to support more than 130 local students who are beginning or continuing their higher education or pursuing certificate programs. Its partner, the Cape Cod Association, awarded $524,750 to 334 students. Together, the organizations exceeded $1.5 million in scholarship support.
The Cape Cod Foundation currently administers 100 funds that award scholarships annually to students throughout the region. More than 500 individuals applied for scholarships this year. Approximately 33% of the recipients are first-generation college students.
A team of more than 250 volunteers donated 1,300 hours to the competitive scholarship selection process.
Some of this year’s students will pursue degrees nearby at Cape Cod Community College and Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Others will venture farther from home to study at Tufts, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Savannah College of Art and Design, and Arizona State University.
They are preparing for careers in business administration, hospitality, law, engineering, medicine, politics, social work, environmental sciences, education, technology, and the arts.
“Our Scholarship Program continues to grow steadily through the generosity of local donors invested in making resources available to local students,” said Foundation President and CEO Kristin O’Malley. “However, because our resources are limited, about 25% of this year’s applicants received scholarships. To increase the number of students who receive awards and to provide multi-year support so they can finance their education through graduation, we actively fundraise for The Cape Cod Foundation Scholarship Fund.”

Together, we have invested more than $106 million in grants and scholarships in the Cape Cod Community. For good.
