In September 2021, our young people returned from remote learning to the classroom. While this signaled a shift back to “normal,” we must continue to address the impacts of the pandemic and make the educational, social, and emotional development of our community’s youngest residents an ongoing priority. Join The Cape Cod Foundation and a panel of local experts to learn more about the needs of young people on Cape Cod, how these need are being addressed, and how we can work collaboratively to provide resources to support our young people now and in the future.

Virtual Community Forum #3
“Mental and Behavioral Health Across Cape Cod”

PRESENTED: JUNE 17, 2021
The arrival of a vaccine and lower COVID-19 rates have given us renewed optimism. However, the pandemic has exacerbated the mental and behavioral health needs of Cape Cod residents, and its impact will be long-lasting. For many, social isolation, feelings of uncertainty, emotional and physical loss, and the inability to access care have increased over the past year. In addition, unemployment, loss of housing, and food insecurity have added to the psychological burden of residents across every age and demographic, especially our most vulnerable.

PRESENTERS
Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO, The Cape Cod Foundation
Allie Anderson, Chief Clinical Officer, Gosnold, Inc.
Karen Gardner, CEO, Community Health Center of Cape Cod
Cindy Horgan, Executive Director, Cape Cod Children’s Place

“Food Security and Access Across Cape Cod”

PRESENTED: FEBRUARY 25, 2021
In 2018, Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap data indicated that 7.6% of the overall population in Barnstable County was food insecure. Eleven percent of our children fell into that estimate. Because of the pandemic, the national hunger-relief organization then predicted food insecurity among residents in our county would increase 50%. Over the past year, our local food pantries and food programs have reported 100%-300% increases in demand for services.

PRESENTERS
Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO, Cape Cod Foundation
Christine Menard, Executive Director, Family Pantry of Cape Cod: Co-Chair, Cape Cod Hunger Network
Tammy Leone, Executive Director, Cape Kid Meals
Maryanne Ryan, Director of Community Services, Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands
