The Cape Cod Foundation Offers 80 Scholarships to Local Students

While most people are busily preparing their tax returns, local students are hustling to meet a different April deadline: the scholarship application deadline. The Cape Cod Foundation has 80 scholarship funds for seniors graduating from high school and current college students. There are also scholarship opportunities for adults planning to pursue degrees, complete certificate programs, or take professional development courses.

The scholarship process is entirely online. The deadline for most scholarships is midnight on April 1. Applicants can download the Foundation’s Scholarship Information Booklet with complete criteria, deadlines, and application requirements for each scholarship at www.capecodfoundation.org.

There are five new scholarships this year.

The Jack Harrison Memorial Scholarship supports graduating high school seniors from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School who plan to attend college or a technical school. Applicants must be strong English students who have participated in at least one sport during high school.

The Coach P Scholarship for Sportsmanship supports graduating high school seniors from Sandwich who have a cumulative GPA of 2.9 or higher and received an award for sportsmanship during their high school careers.

The Latanzi, Spaulding & Landreth Scholarship supports graduating seniors in the top 25% of their class at Barnstable High School, Monomoy Regional High School, or Nauset Regional High School who plan to pursue an education in law, government or the social sciences. Applicants must have demonstrated financial need.

The Dr. Andrew W. Mason and Edith B. Mason Memorial Scholarship supports graduating high school seniors who reside in Falmouth or Mashpee and plan to attend an accredited college or university.

The Ryan Family Amusements Scholarship supports graduating high school seniors and current college students interested in pursuing a career in the hospitality industry who are residents of Dukes County, Barnstable County, or the towns of Plymouth, Millis, or Raynham.

Last year, The Cape Cod Foundation awarded more than $500,000 to 140 students from Cape Cod and the Islands. The Foundation also administers scholarships for its supporting organization, the Cape Cod Association (CCA), which awarded more than $440,000 scholarships to 297 students in 2018. Criteria, deadlines, and application requirements for CCA scholarships are online at www.capecodassoc.org.

“Our community clearly cares about education,” said Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation. “In the last decade alone, our annual scholarship awards have increased 60%. However, the need is high, and the competition is steep. That’s why community support is so critical.”

O’Malley said the Foundation has a General Scholarship Fund with broad eligibility requirements to increase opportunities for students. Anyone interested in donating to this scholarship can contact O’Malley at 508-790-3040 or donate online at www.capecodfoundation.org.

“With help from numerous donors, we have been able to increase support from this fund from one award to multiple, multi-years awards each year,” O’Malley added.
