Getting Started

Creating a fund starts with one simple question: What matters to you? Once we know what you would like to accomplish, we’ll help you develop a personal and meaningful Giving Strategy that will positively impact the community in the years to come. No two funds are alike. You have flexibility, options and an experienced team of professionals to help you. Let’s get started with a conversation.

Types of Funds

To accommodate the diverse interests and needs of donors, the Foundation offers six different types of funds. Here’s an overview:

Unrestricted Funds
Unrestricted funds are ideal for donors with broad interests who would like to meet the most urgent needs of the community from year to year. This fund allows the Foundation’s Board of Directors full discretion to distribute the income from your fund where it will have the greatest impact in the community.

Field of Interest Funds
If you want to support a specific interest or concern, such as education, the arts, or conservation, a field of interest fund will achieve your goals.

Donor-Advised Funds
Those who want to have active role in your philanthropy establish donor-advised funds. This fund enables you to make grant recommendations.

Designated Funds
Designated Funds allow you to support one or more organizations with distributions from your fund. For example, if you wish to support a land trust in your community, a designated fund ensures that all grants will be made to that organization in perpetuity. If the benefiting organization ceases to exist in future years, the Foundation will direct the income from your fund to another fund with a similar purpose.

Scholarship Funds
Scholarships provide educational opportunities for students of all ages: graduating high school seniors, current college students, and adults planning to pursue degrees, complete certificate programs or take professional development course.

Agency Endowment Funds
If you are active in a nonprofit organization and seek long-term financial stability and the support of investment management professionals, you can establish a permanent endowment fund for that organization.

Create your own fund. Donate to an existing fund. Support the Foundation’s Civic Leadership Initiatives.

Together, we have invested more than $95 million in grants and scholarships in the Cape Cod Community. For good.
