The Cape Cod Foundation Hosts Annual Non-Event

SOUTH YARMOUTH—While many nonprofit organizations have had to reimagine their fundraisers this year due to social distancing, The Cape Cod Foundation’s Annual Non-Event, required few, if any, tweaks to execute.

“We’ve had a lot of fun with this no frills, no fuss, no-attendance-required fundraiser over the years,” said Kristin O’Malley the Foundation’s President and CEO. “It gives our donors the opportunity to support the Foundation without the obligation of attending an actual event. They simply buy tickets to our pretend party—and never show up!”

O’Malley says community support for the cost-effective Non-Event helps the Foundation implement critical civic leadership initiatives–during ordinary and extraordinary times.

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation created a Strategic Emergency Response Fund and has raised more than $1.51 million from discretionary resources, individual donors, corporate partners and foundations to support residents to date. Over a period of 14 weeks, it distributed $1.17 million in grants to 44 local nonprofit organizations providing critical services to residents across Cape Cod. More grants are planned.

“We will continue to build and deploy resources through the Strategic Emergency Response Fund to strengthen our community now and in the years to come,” O’Malley said. “Our grantmaking will also support ongoing and new initiatives that help nonprofits build capacity, create nonprofit education and leadership development opportunities, power up partnerships with broad regional impact and bring vital, shared resources to Cape Cod’s nonprofit community.”

O’Malley said the Foundation’s mission is to bring resources and opportunities to the region that advance essential work in many areas of Cape Cod life: community and economic development; housing; health & human services; arts & culture; children, youth & families; and the environment.

Sponsors for this year’s Non-Event include: inc. ‘82 (Gold); itWORKS! (Bronze) and La Tanzi, Spaulding & Landreth, LLP (Bronze).
