Volunteer Jeanne Morrison

Caroline

Jeanne grew up on Cape Cod, earned a Bachelor of Science, Allied Health Professions, from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in Counseling and Education from Cambridge College.

She has received the Massachusetts Voter Table 2022-2023 Democracy Hub Grant for voter education and engagement and the Emerging Leader Grant from the Massachusetts Women of Color Coalition to conduct field work and phone banking to educate voters on ballot questions and increase voter registration and turnout in underserved communities. In 2020, she was involved with the WOC Leadership Forum, “Standing In Our Power.” The two-day forum focused on voter trends, civic leadership and engagement for women of color and communities of color.

Jeanne was drawn to her role on The Women and Girls Fund Advisory Committee because of The Cape Cod Foundation’s leadership, and the people, such as Muska Yousuf and Andi Genser engaged in its development. She says the highlights of her experience to date are, “The compelling case presented by the data and the shared real stories of women and girls in the video segments. The strong focus on BIPOC women and the understanding of the unique needs of women in those communities. I’m also impressed by the number of organizations involved in providing resources to women.”

She added, “As a woman who grew up on Cape Cod, I could see that programs and opportunities were still lacking, especially for women and girls of color and those who were economically, physically, and mentally challenged. Women and girls still face barriers and need more resources and opportunities on Cape Cod. In order for that to happen they need to have their voices heard. I see the work of the fund as a vehicle to lift their voices. The opportunity to engage girls and young women in the community and initiate sustainable change is optimal at this moment in time.”
